IMF has appointed Carlos Mulas-Granados as its new Regional Representative for Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe

The International Monetary Fund (IMF) has appointed Carlos Mulas-Granados as its new Regional Representative for Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe, effective September2, 2025.He will succeed Geoff Gottlieb,who is returning to IMF headquarters after three years of service in the Fund’s Warsaw-based office.

Mr. Mulas-Granados, a Spanish national, most recently served as Deputy Chief in the IMF’s StrategyUnit,where he over saw the Fund’s engagement with the International Monetary and Financial Committee and the G20. He has previously held senior economist positions in various IMF departments, contributing to missions in Brazil, Croatia, Costa Rica, Portugal, Senegal,and theUnited Kingdom,and leading analytical work for IMF’s flagship publications, such as the World Economic Outlook, the Fiscal Monitor and Europe’s Regional Economic Outlook.

The rotation of Resident Representatives is a standard IMF practice designed to support staff development and ensure the continued effectiveness of its global operations.
